Why Burghfield?

Why Burghfield?

Why Burghfield?

FUN - Blast across the wind or cruise around the lake and explore the different aspects of Burghfield Sailing Club's uncrowded vast expanse of water.

Whether your pleasures are surf-boarding, dinghy sailing, model yachting, racing, cruising or just getting onto the water, there is something for everyone at Burghfield.
CHALLENGING - Pit your skills against the best sailors in the country and see how well you can do in the weekly club races.

Burghfield often has 3 or 4 current or ex-National Champions racing at the same time as beginners to the sport are entering their first race. Whatever your standard, there will always be someone just that little bit better (or worse!) than you for you to race against.

IMPROVE - Attend one of our many RYA approved courses run by Berkshire Sail Training Centre located at the club.

Whether you want to learn to sail, learn to race, or just improve your skills, there are weekend, day or evening courses available, as well as more informal training from other club members - a number of whom are fully trained as Class and Club Coaches.

And if you have children - aged 6 to 16 - then there are special Oppie Club sessions on a Sunday morning, where up to 100 kids have fun every week.
ACCESSIBLE - BSC is near the M4, with easy access from Reading, Basingstoke, Bracknell and Newbury, and the M25 only 40 minutes away.

Just off Junction 12 of the M4, the water is clearly visible as you drive up and down the motorway.
SAIL ANYTIME - If it's warm, windy and you can get off work - come on down to the lake any time from sunrise to sunset.

There is a Club Manager on duty most days. And the club is large enough so you are rarely on your own: if you think its a good day for sailing, so will someone else!
Vision RELAX - Take time out and watch from the clubhouse balcony, quench your thirst from the bar in comfort (open at weekends and Wednesday evenings in the summer, and Sundays throughout the year), enjoy a snack or meal from the fully staffed kitchen, or bring your own picnic or have a barbecue.

Saturday Sailing with safety cover through he summer, offers the opportunity for people to get together who just like to un-wind and enjoy the water, without the pressures of racing and trying to go faster than the next boat. The club has a number of boats available for hire (to club members) for when you have extra visitors for the weekend, or are wondering which class to move into next.
