OPEN DAY 2012 Saturday 19th May 2012 from 11am until 4pm

On Saturday 19th of May the club opens its doors and welcomes anyone who would like to find out more about sailing and racing at Burghfield sailing centre. Weather permitting there will be the chance for all visitors to get out on the water with our crews to experience the fun of sailing. Last year we made over 200 runs with our visitors, many of whom decided to join us on the spot.

The club supports all types of sailing activities including: racing, recreational sailing, family social sailing, youth sailing and training. Berkshire Sail Training are also onsite and provide RYA approved courses for all ages in sailing, windsurfing, and powerboating. Plenty of members young and old will be on hand to help you get out on the water and answer any questions about BSC and sailing in general.

It’s a good idea to bring a spare set of clothes and shoes on the day, something to change into if you get wet. Hot food will be available all day in our Club House where you can relax and talk to other club members and get an insight into the activities of this flourishing sailing venue.

We’ll be offering a range of incentives on the day to make starting or improving your sailing as easy as possible. For complete beginners BST will offer a special introductory package on their 4 day RYA level 1 and 2 training course. Achieving RYA 2 allows club members to hire boats from the clubs fleet.

For more experienced sailors and racers wanting more time on the water, a special 2012 new joiner’s package offers a range of incentives to help you get the most out of club membership at BSC during 2012.

If you can’t make it on the day you are welcome at any time to come along and find out more by contacting Pat Forbes Manager at BSC on 01189 303614 or email

Open Day Report 2008

A very busy day!
This years open day can only be deemed to have been a huge success. Though the wind was incredibly light the weather was fantastic and drew a large number of visitors to try their hand at sailing.
The only reason the day was such a success was down totally to all those members who so generously gave up their time to ensure that all the visitors were well catered for and got the chance to try out a huge range of different boats and activites.
An active beach!
The club was positively buzzing with activity and the visitors were able to try out windsurfing and sailing and positively revelled in the warm welcome they recieved. This warm family feeling is what makes BSC so special and with so many mmembers giving so generously it was not surprising that the day went so well!

It is wonderful that over the weekend 27 new family members joined and we hope that you all enjoy your sailing here at BSC. Please do not hesitate to ask any other member for help if you are unsure of anything- they will be more than happy to oblige.
A busy lake

With the open day now over, let us all look forward to a wonderful summers sailing and remember, if you are new to sailing and want to meet a group of similar minded people and join in on various different activites which will be both social and improve your sailing then you can't do better than to take part in admirals club. For more information please contact Nick Bratton at

Finally, I did get a chance to take a few pictures and so use the link below to see just how busy it was!

OPEN DAY 19th May 2007

A Great Success!

Warm sunny weather and a good westerly wind was a great way for this years open day to start and it only got better from there. There was a very positive turnout of both members, visitors and comet sailors competing in their inland championships which all culminated in a fantastic day for all. The new Club boat, an RS Vision was hastily put together by Tony Brown in the early part of the morning and proved to be a big success with the family sailors. A great range of boats was provided for the visitors to try out from Oppie and Tepco to Asymmetric Vortex and RS 400's.
All who visited seemed to enjoy themselves and many comments were made about how opening and welcome the club members made them feel.

Below is a link to a photo album of the day with the few pics I managed to take between running around like an idiot! If anyone has any more pics of the day please feel free to mail them to me or add them yourself.

New Club RS Vision

Open Day, 2006

The open day has been deemed a success by all those involved.

Burghfield Sailing Club signed in 30 non-members and their families on this years open day - Saturday 20th May - and we would like to welcome our 16 new members and their families (a total of 55 new names and faces!) who joined the club on what has been one of our windiest open days to date.

Despite seeing gusts reaching force 5+ on regular occasions in the afternoon, we had an extremely successful open day with 6 first time junior windsurfers (and 3 adults) having a go and the 3 club RS Fevas being launched for the first time in what can only be described as extremely challenging conditions! One of the RS Fevas helmed by Jeremy Carey and crewed by Jake Bullock was recorded at 13.5knts qualifying it as the current leader on the Burghfield speed challenge!!!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tony Chandler and Les Mercer for their efforts with teaching and supervising the windsurfers on the shore front. I would also like to thank those involved with providing sailors, new and old, with the chance to go out in the wide selection of boats presented on the shore front.

Thanks are also due to the Rescue boat crews who were kept extremely busy right through the day yet still managed to keep on top of the task in hand.
