Results:
Results will be uploaded for both the Bart's Race and the Buoy Race to the Bart's Bash system as soon as possible - it's more fun than science!

Prizes:
We'll endeavour to present prizes for all three races immediately following the racing . The highest placed Burghfield sailor in the Bart's Race will be presented with a prize once all the results have been calculated for the world wide event.

Kris will be providing catering all day, and it should be a great, fun event for all the family, sailors & landlubbers alike. So bring your friends, family and colleagues along and sign them up as a Bart's Buddy!

We will be collecting donations on the day for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation - the recommended donation is £5.

Buoy Race

The Buoy Race

A fun time-trial type event to get everyone involved. The race will consist of sailing out to a buoy and back

We'll be using the club Fevas and Oppies. Sail with a friend, with a buddy with lots of buddies. We'd love to see the experienced sailors setting a lap time in an Oppie - so please come along during the afternoon and get involved.

If you are planning to be on shore after lunch we could do with some extra scribes and timers - please let us know if you are available to help .

What is Bart's Bash?

Bart's Bash is the World's largest sailing event that is run by sailing clubs all around the world on behalf of The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.

The first Bart’s Bash in 2014 saw over 700 sailing clubs from over 68 different countries take part each in their own individual Bart’s Bash race at their location, The race set a new Guinness World Record and raised money for a new charity The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation to inspire the next generation and remember Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson.

Andrew Simpson

Who was Bart?

Nicknamed "Bart", Andrew Simpson started his sailing career in a Laser before moving to the Finn class where he won Bronze at the World Championships in 2003. His training partner Ben Ainslie took Gold at the same event and GBR topped the medal table.

Andrew then joined his lifelong friend Iain Percy in the Star Class keelboat winning Gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Gold at the World Championships in 2010 and Silver at the Olympics in London in 2012.

Following the Olympics, Andrew joined the Swedish Artemis America’s Cup team. Andrew tragically died in May 2013 following the capsize of the AC72 he was aboard whilst training for the 34th America's Cup in San Francisco Bay.

ASSF

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation

The Foundation principally focuses on young people between the age of 5 and 24, trying to ensure that every young person, regardless of circumstance, is given the chance to achieve their potential through sailing.

In May 2014 the Foundation opened a sailing centre at the National Sailing Academy in Portland, UK.

The Foundation has used the sailing centre to develop and evaluate the pathway of sailing programmes.

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation works collaboratively with charitable and not for profit sailing initiatives, locally, nationally and internationally, to offer both practical and financial support in the delivery of inspiring sailing programmes, in line with Bart’s pathway to success.
