Tuesday Sailing

Tuesday Tootlers - Social Sailing Every Tuesday Morning

Tuesday Morning Social Sailing

Would you like to sail mid-week, but prefer not to go out onto the lake on your own? Perhaps you'd like to sail but have no crew or your boat is too heavy to manage on your own? Or, you'd like to crew for someone, or have a friend you’d like to bring along. You might be a shift worker with an irregular work pattern.

Whatever the reason, if you would like to sail, why not come to the Club on Tuesday mornings, for a social tootle around the lake. I suggest meeting at 10 am - or thereabouts - under the clubhouse balcony, aiming to get onto the water at about 11am.

Looking forward to seeing you - Adrian Elsey

Wednesday Evening Pursuit - Starts 25 April

Come and join one of the most popular Wednesday Evening Race Series in the country!

More Details about Wednesday Evening Racing

Don't forget to sign on,check your class and personal handicaps and order supper!

Due to a slightly lower entry last year and a number of regulars unable to compete this year due to cahnges in work commitments, we are looking for a significant number of volunteers especially later in the series.

Maybe you don't want to sail but you'd like a chilled evening at the club - on the water and then enjoy a drink and supper with friends? Maybe you'd be prepared to complete more than one duty this series? If you are available to help, we'd really appreciate hearing from you. Either contact the club office or volunteer directly on the Wednesday Dutyman roster.

TGI Oppie Friday & Admiral's Club Duck Hunt - 1st June

Friday evening will see the first combined TGI Oppie Friday & Admiral's Club event - the infamous Duck Hunt!

An event is perfect for all family members. Ducks are released, to run wild across the lake and it’s your task to scoop them all up.

Club boats can be reserved through the office. Club Oppies will be available for all Oppie group sailors.

The clubroom open from 5pm and we will try to arrange for safety cover on the lake by 5:30pm at the latest.

As for a typical TGI Oppie Friday BBQ event, you can bring along your own dinner and we’ll fire up the club BBQ’s during the evening. We will have the club bar open, if we can cajole a couple of volunteers to staff it for a while, during the evening.

We’ll have full access to the kitchen, so crockery & cutlery will be available. Cups are not available, as they are stored in the locked servery area.

If you are intending to come along, it would be really helpful to have an idea of numbers, especially for those planning to sail. It helps with allocating safety on the water. Please drop Paul - a quick note if you’re thinking of attending.

We’ll need a couple of volunteers to help during the evening. If you are willing to spend an hour or so covering one of the roles below, please let me know:

- Bar staffing
- Safety helm
- Safety crew

If you know any other club members who may be interested in coming along but may not see this email, please feel free to forward it on to them. Also, non members are always welcome to accompany club members to our events.

nervous wrecks 2.0

Nervous Wrecks - Still not sure what the race format is?? Read on....

  1. Decide how many boats you want in your team - no limit
  2. Decide how many people you want in your team - no upper limit - but it must be MORE than the natural number of crew in your team’s fleet. (e.g. One Laser and two members OR One 200 + one 400 + one Blaze and six members)
  3. Race for six hours! - The only stipulation is that every member of the team must complete at least one lap of the measured course. You should aim to have all your boats on the water all the time.
  4. The Virtual Distance completed by each boat in the team over the six hours is calculated - Virtual distance is just actual distance, corrected for reduced for boats quicker than 1000 and increased for boats slower than 1000
  5. The AVERAGE Virtual Distance for boats in the team is calculated - This is the Virtual Distance for each boat in the team, added together and divided by the number of boats in the team
  6. The Winner is the team with the greatest Average Virtual Distance

So ..... you should try to have ALL your boats racing ALL the time and sailing (as fast as possible)! Because it’s the average distance that’s important. There’s no point having (say) four boats in your team and having one of them ashore most of the time...because then your team average will be the average of three quite big distances - and one very short one!

Haven’t sorted a team yet?
No problem! Enter your boat, your details and book your social tickets and we’ll cobble some teams together on the day! It’s all part of the fun!!

BSC 2:2

Sunday 17th June - NEW 2:2 Series!

Last year we ran two, trial series the 2:1 and the 1:2. The feedback from both trials was generally that sailors wanted more racing in the same time. With racing on 3rd June cancelled, over the next two Sundays (10th & 17th June) we will be trying the 2:2 series.

The 2:2 series will constitute 2 slightly shorter races back-to-back in the morning followed by 2 slightly shorter races back-to-back after lunch - start as soon as possible after 13:30 - race team to confirm on the day.

In addition, this will be a mini-series which includes all the races over three Sundays rather than the traditional long morning and afternoon series. The series will also be used to award the KGFShield and Ladies Rosebowl.

Starts will be as for normal Sunday club fleets with a target of 35 minute races.

We very much hope that you will come along, enjoy the racing with an open mind and give lots of feedback afterwards.
